Father Michael J. McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus in 1882 at St.Mary's in New Haven,CT.As an organization commited to Unity as a Catholic lay organization,Charity to those in need, and Fraternity with fellow brother Knights.

Today, Knights and their families remain true to these principles and work to spread Columbianism around the world.

The Penn Allegheny Council Number 4242 was chartered in June of 1956.As with most councils there was a need to bring the Catholic men of Verona,Oakmont and Penn Hills together.Today our council consists of Catholic men and their  families from eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh,PA.

As Catholics and Knights we Pledge our loyalty and support to our Holy Father ,our bishops, and priests.Many of our members serve in our parishes as lectors,ushers,extraordinary ministers,cantors,CCD teachers,parish council,choir,etc.

We are dedicated family men striving to provide a good example for our families.We welcome other such Catholic men as new members no matter their local or walk of life.

The Knights of Columbus -

The worlds largest Catholic lay organization with over 1.7 million members.There are over 65,000 members in over 500 councils in Pennsylvania, 170 members in Penn Allegheny Council #4242.The Knights of Columbus is open to all men 18 years of age who are practicing Catholics.

Local Activities
  • Penn Hills Service Association -
​       -One member volunteers every saturday to distribute medical supplies to the community.

  • ​Bishop of Pittsburgh Project for Exceptional Children
        Raise fund to support the St.Anthony Schools program and the McGuire Home for Exceptional Children in New Brighton,PA.This is done though Tootsie Roll drives and Christmas Seal distribution

  • Adopt-A-Highway
​        We clean Shannon Road in Penn Hills three times per year.We have been a 10 year participant in this program.

  •  Funnel Cake Booth at St.John the Baptist Parish Family Festival
       All proceed benifit the St.John the Baptist Church and School.

  • Santa Breakfast at St.Gerard Majella Parish
         -Organize pancake breakfast to raise money for the parish

  • Fraternal Activities 
         Member and Spouse parties
         Summer Family Picnic

  • ​Support of local organizations
  • Adopt a Semnarian Program
          -Raise funds to help students at St.Paul Seminary
  • Yearly Golf Outing
